...to my friends
First of all I'd like to say that it doesn't matter to me who you voted for President. I pick who I associate with based on the quality of their character NOT their political allegiance. To me, I've always seen it as personal choice, therefore not really my business. All I ask (and I've said this for every president) is don't completely pass judgment until you give the person a chance. There are always major differences between campaign promises and what actually gets done. That being said I'd like to address my GBLT friends. I share your utter frustration with the results of state initiatives regarding same sex marriage. I know some you feel you want punch a brick wall or feel your self worth is less, but before you go completely off that end, I'd like to reflect on a few positive points: - In California we still have quite a few absentee ballots to count and even if it still passes, this prop's fate will be in legal limbo for some time due to all the marriages already done. The big issue is that constitution changes that "fundamentally change" rather than "simply amend" the are required to be passed by the legislature before they can put as a voter initiative. The prop 8 folks did not do this and risk having it put down on appeal.
- In years past, gay marriage bans have won with large margins. However for AZ and CA (assuming it passes) they will pass by a thin margin. People's attitudes change, but it takes time.
- In California gay couples pretty much have the same state rights as married couples though domestic partnerships. The majority of the people who voted for proposition 8, have no intention of changing that.
- Obama is very GBLT friendly and has promised many changes at the Federal level for gay rights.
- With that said this is what I think people need to do and not to.
DO NOT: Get violent over this issue. It accomplishes nothing and gives the religious right ammunition against this cause. You will have no sympathy from law enforcement and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Furthermore, it will cause me to loose respect for you. I know how frustrating this all is, but we still have plenty of legal avenues to PEACEFULLY address this issue. DO:Get involved outside of election time. Did the civil rights activists of the 60's get their goals accomplished by being active only around election time, of course not. Stage protests, sitins , rallys, or join active ones to make your voice heard all the time. On that note, please don't use the Folsom street spandex commando crap to get your point across. The best way to get people on the GBLT side is for them to see how SIMILAR the two groups are to one another. We have come a long way towards tolerance. Yesterday didn't tell us that it was defeated, only that we are not there yet. Keep up the fight and one day victory will be achieved. Current Mood: awake |

Decisions Decisions....
So a few local buddies and myself are planning to attend the Geneva Auto Show this March (yes, we are hard core gear heads) So I was taking a peek at airfares with Sidestep and found an interesting one.... It involves a near 24 layover in Doha, Qatar coming home. This makes it interesting since we would have time to explore and do stuff there (Qatar is one of the most developed, tolerant, and stable states in the Middle East). One of the things I've looked into was doing a day desert safari and hopefully see some Oryx. I was wondering if anyone here has been to or knows someone to Qatar, some input would be helpful. How does one say "tact" in Thai?
I took a look this afternoon at the website of One-Two-Go airlines (the airline that had the crash on Sunday in Phuket,Thailand) This is their press release following the crash: One-Two-GO is extremely regretful over the accident of OG269 DMK-HKT that skidded off the runway at Phuket International Airport yesterday. For any inquiries such as names of passengers on board, how to pick up passenger’s relatives to the point of accident including responsibility of corpse transportation, please directly contact the following One-Two-GO hotline numbers.
The part that kinda shocked me was the following: "including responsibility of corpse transportation"
Maybe its something lost in the translation, but I find it kinda tactless to bring up who flips the bill of getting your deceased loved one home when making your initial apology. Current Mood: surprised |

On the Bandwagon </form> Western. Like Midland, Western is another accent that people consider neutral. So, you might not actually be from the Western half of the country, but you definitely sound like it. Take this quiz now - it's easy! |

Find new roomate blues
Over this past week it seems that the plans to repalce our roomate who's moving out with a new one have changed over 10 times in the couse of 1 week. I'm sick and tried of having panic attacks because all the plans we made one day compleley fall apart the next. I'm getting to the point of saying "FUCK IT" and moving out on my own. I feel that certain people automatically assume since I make good money that I have no problem taking a fall. For the most part I've gotten everything taken care of with the exisiting roomates all we need now is the replacment roomate. If anyone in SoCal is looking for a room to rent around Westminster and can move in either in the beginning of July or August, contact me ASAP. I hope this gets resolved soon, I don't know how much more I can take of this. Current Mood: scared |

Weird Dreams I have been having
Well in an attempt to update my LJ more often I’d though I’d start with the weird dreams I’ve been having lately. Most of them are loosely based on reality (meaning that they in theory could happen, but are just so odd, many times different parts of history happen in the same time frame) So here goes: donaldson brianblackberry and I were flying a Cathay Pacific 747 into the old Hong Kong airport (Kai Tak). donaldson was the pilot ,smoking a cigarette, I was the 1st officer, and brianblackberry was the navigator. LITTLE BACKGROUND: For those of you who are not aware of the old Hong Kong airport it was of the most spectacular/dangerous airports to land in the world. The airport was right smack in the city and required a 47 degree right turn 3 miles before landing to line up with the runway (a checkerboard was painted on a hill to note when to turn) Well in my dream we were about to land and donaldson missed the checkerboard and I advised him had to abort the landing. He told me that was nonsense and made an insane 65 degree turn to line up with the runway. brianblackberry and I were yelling at donaldson as well as the Air Traffic Controller telling him how crazy he was. The Air Traffic Controller asked us if we needed Fire and Rescue to meet them when we landed. donaldson replied “Chuck Diesel don’t need no medics” As we were about 20 seconds to touchdown donaldson said “Hey Chris, check this out.” He proceeded to skew the aircraft to the right until 2 seconds before touching down (you could hear the passengers screaming at this point) When we landed scores of people were injured and the SWAT team raided the flight deck and arrested us all. The end :P Current Mood: working |
